White Sturgeon Herpesvirus 2
Also known as: WSHV-2
White Sturgeon Herpesvirus 2 (WSHV-2) is a member of the Alloherpesviridae family, known to infect white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus). This virus has been associated with mortality events in both hatchery and wild populations. Clinical signs are typically non-specific but may include lethargy and skin ulcers. The virus may persist in fish as a latent infection, making eradication difficult.
Distribution: North America
Hosts: White sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus)
Detection Methods: PCR – unspecified; virus isolation
Target Tissue: Kidney, spleen, and skin lesions
