Eustrongylides
ALSO KNOWN AS: Thread Worm; Pin Worm
Eustrongylides are a group of nematodes that infect sticklebacks, salmonids, and many other fish species. The worms are bright red and can be up to about an inch long. They are visible in the body cavity and musculature of infected fish.
Distribution: North America, particularly Oregon
Detection Methods: Gross pathology / gross clinical signs, microscopic exam – histology, microscopic exam – wet mount
Hosts: Sticklebacks, salmonids, and other fish species
Target Tissue: Body cavity and musculature
